Comparison Test- Nokia Lumia 800 Vs Apple iPhone 4S

With as many as seven operating systems, bigger and better screens, features and applications; we have more options in buying a mobile phone than there was ever. As new Smartphone models are rolling into the market every second, it has become hard for us to decide where to invest our hard-earned money. To make this decision a bit easier, we have compared the two most popular phone models in the market- The Nokia Lumia 800 and Apple iPhone 4S.

The two phones are quite similar in many features. The main difference between these two Smart phones lies in the basic construction and the operating system.

The Apple iPhone 4S has a sophisticated design with abundant use of steel and glass. The main frame of the phone is made of steel while either side of the phone is laminated with glass for that classy look. A note here will be that this makes the phone quite delicate as well as a magnet for finger prints. It will be a good idea to use a phone cover in case you decide to get one. The Nokia lumia 800 on the other hand is made of poly-carbonated material on the lines of Nokia N9. This provides the phone with extra ruggedness at the same time makes the phone light weight. The shape of Nokia lumia 800 is quite ergonomic and easy to use. Also the unusual length and small width makes the phone easy to handle as well as use.

Nokia Lumia 800 comes with the latest in windows mobile- ‘The Windows 7.5 Mango’. Although Windows phone are not doing good business as compared to other OSs like- ‘Android’ and ‘iOS’, ‘The Mango’ may be Window’s savior in this context. Apple on the other hand comes with the latest A5 OS which Apple claims to be able to run graphics as much as seven times faster than its earlier models. Also one major feature which differentiates these two phones is the application- ‘Siri’ (which is an AI-based voice assistant) provided in the Apple iPhone 4S.

Other than these features there are minor differences in features provided in these two mobiles. Both the Apple iPhone and Nokia lumia 800 are quad-band, 3G and WiFi enabled phones. Both the phones have 512 MB internal RAM and do not support external memory cards. They are both available with 16 GB internal memory whereas the Apple has two more options with 32 GB and 64 GB memory storage.

Both the phones feature an 8MP camera with LED flash. However the Nokia Lumia 800 has a dual LED flash as against one in Apple iPhone 4S but lacks severely in one front- No secondary/front camera. So if you want to use the Lumia 800 for a video chat, then be ready with a mirror! Also video shooting from iPhone is better as it supports 1080p@ 30 frames per second as compared to a mere 720p@ 30 frames per second.

The batteries are also nearly same at about 1450mAh (Nokia Lumia 800) and 1430mAh. (Apple iPhone 4s) It can provide a decent battery backup for either of the phones, but an increase will be very much appreciated considering the large 3.7 inch screen and 3.5 inch large screens respectively.

Although the screen sizes are bit similar but writing (or more precisely dictating) in iPhone is definitely the winner. With Siri as an office assistant you can send long articles and emails which will be specially beneficial for Article Writing. (God, I’m fed up of typing, an iPhone 4S will be very much appreciated!)

One major defect with the Nokia lumia 800 is that the Bluetooth feature has restricted sharing. Hope Nokia checks this flaw through phone software updates.

Overall both the phones are quite good and anyone would be tempted to have their hands on one as soon as possible. Which phone to go for? The answer depends entirely upon individual preference(s).

How Does iCloud Work?

Apple’s release of its iOS 5 operating system changes the way people think about their files and other information. It features built-in support for cloud storage, meaning users can access all their files from almost anywhere.

Without adding any software, the iOS5 operating system has the ability to save files to Apple servers based on a user’s Apple ID. Users who download files to their phone or tablet can store them on their iCloud account to make them accessible to their computers and other devices. Saving file downloads to iCloud also conserves device storage space.

Setting up iDrive is easy. The first step requires users to make sure they have iOS 5 installed on their device. New devices should come with iOS 5 pre-installed. Users of many older iPhones, iPads and iPod Touchs can install the iOS 5 update via iTunes.

When booting an iOS 5 device for the first time, users should follow the onscreen setup sequence to enable iCloud. Users who skipped the setup process can tap the Settings icon on their home screen to run it.

On the iCloud settings window users can decide what services to use with iCloud. Options include Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Bookmarks, notes, Photo Stream, Documents and Data, and Find My iPhone. Users can also enable iBackup, a feature that backs up their entire device to iCloud when a Wi-Fi connection is available. Users can enable automatic downloads for their books, music and apps. Users can also choose whether the automatic downloads feature will use the mobile data network or only Wi-Fi.

Benefits and Limitations

The convenience of the iCloud service is clear: users can access their data from a centralized storage location. Never again will Apple users get caught without their photos, contacts, appointments or data files. Of course, the iCloud service has some limitations.

A computer hard drive is always accessible from a working computer. Files on iCloud are inaccessible in the event of a service outage or if a user finds himself or herself in a place with no network access. Users who forget to pay their bills can experience serious complications when trying to access their files.

Apple has a less-than-stellar reputation regarding privacy and security. Users should consider whether they should trust iCloud enough to store confidential or business-sensitive information.

Technology: Gifts for Grandma

Holiday shopping time is here again and many of us are faced with the same dilemma as previous years: what to buy for our loved ones. Unless you’ve been given a specific wish list it can be difficult to decide on an appropriate gift. This is especially true when it comes to grandmothers. In today’s gadget-laden world, finding a gift that she can and will use can feel like searching for the lost city of El Dorado. There are some electronic gifts that are well suited for a wide variety of grandmothers due to the fact that they feature intuitive, easy-to-use designs.

Apple TV

If your grandma loves movies, whether classics or recent blockbusters, she’ll love the Apple TV. Apple is known for its simple, intuitive interface and this device is no exception. Though it may take some getting used to, your grandma will quickly be able to browse the media in her computer’s iTunes library as well as Netflix and anything available on the iTunes Store. The device only supports HDMI output, though, so she’ll have to have a television with an available HDMI port.

Digital Picture Frame

Most grandparents love having pictures of their friends and family close at hand, though the proliferation of digital cameras has, in some ways, made it more difficult for them to obtain high quality pictures. Find a good photo printer; using the right paper and ink and resizing pictures can be a complicated task and end in unsatisfactory pictures. Digital picture frames make all of this a thing of the past. You can load a memory card up with your grandmother’s favorite pictures, put it in the frame and give her the satisfaction of having an entire photo album in one frame. Some digital frames even feature Wi-Fi connections, allowing you to email pictures directly to the frame or connect it to Facebook so she can view your latest pictures instantly.

USB record player + MP3 Player

If your grandmother has a large collection of records, a USB record player coupled with an MP3 player could help her organize her music collection and keep her vinyl from being worn out with multiple plays. Though they can be used as a normal phonograph, the ability to hook these players up to a computer via USB is what makes this gift so great. Though it will take some training, your grandmother should be able to use the player and included software to record all of her records on her computer as mp3 files. Most of these items include software that will automatically encode the files and detect track splits, so all she has to do is start the program and begin playing the record. Pairing this with an MP3 player will allow her to carry her music collection with her and create playlists of her favorite songs without requiring her to juggle multiple records.

Medical Alarms

This may not be the most fun gift on the list, but it does have an important practical purpose. If your grandmother has medical problems but still wants to maintain her independence and stay active, buying her a medical alarm can put you at ease and help her retain her freedom. With one of these alarms your grandmother can contact an emergency response center, communicate with them about the situation and receive medical help. The service provider will also notify family and caregivers about the emergency, so you know you’ll be informed if any problems arise.

Apple Siri and Local SEO

Apple took the mobile world by storm when it introduced the iPhone. Its latest offering in the series of one of the most popular smartphone brands of the world is the iPhone 4S. Though the device has many features to boast of, the feature that has caught everyone’s attention is Siri. Siri is basically a voice recognition app that allows you to control different functions in your cell phone like, sending messages, calling, and calendar reminders. However, the biggest feature of Siri is that it can do local searches for you and provide you with information on restaurants, banks, or cab services. What this means is that you do not have to perform searches in order to find out these details.

However, this also means that the importance of search engine results and the various PPC advertisements reduces significantly. It is not known that how Siri goes about collecting the information, but it is quite certain that it uses sites like Google Places and Yelp. That is why it has become very important for websites to make changes so that Siri and similar applications can access them without many difficulties. Here are a few tips that can help you in this process.

Mobile site optimization

You may have heard this before, as mobile sites are not new, but it is expected that by 2015 30% of the searches would be have some sort of a local element to them. That is why you should try to make changes and incorporate local SEO as a part of your business plan. You can use some the following steps for optimizing your site for mobiles.

  • You can use mobile site templates that are available on popular platforms like Joomla, Drupal, and WordPress.
  • You should make sure that your contact details are prominent on you home page. This helps in local SEO as it enables apps like Siri to figure out the contact details a lot more easily.
  • The main thing to consider is how Siri and other voice apps will access the information on your website. If you use heavy graphics, Flash, and PDFs for displaying information then it simply makes it more difficult for Siri to find out the required details.

Improving you digital presence

Many people believe that setting up a page on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook is sufficient because social media marketing gives more exposure. You should make sure that you are present on one or more directories like Yahoo, Foursquare, Google Places etc. There are various such directories and to determine which ones you should pick, you should search on Google to figure out the sites and companies that are doing well in your geographical area. Then you should use the directories that are being used by these companies.

It is also important to ensure that you use schema tags for your website. These tags help in incorporating micro data like, contacts address and working hours. This can help apps and search engines in processing information from your site a lot more quickly.

It’s Not All Black and White: Social and Mobile Make the Miles Disappear

Apple’s iPhone 4 only comes in one of two color options; Black and White. Did Apple’s designers just decide for a simple and chic look of sophistication? Or is there more to it than that? Made popular by literary figures, such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his infamous novel, “The Scarlet Letter” the contrast between white and black carries more implications than just aesthetics that imply sophistication. Really it’s a contrast between good and evil. Now, I’m not trying to be presumptuous in implying that Apple’s designers really were aiming creating a contrast between good and evil in their iPhone designs, I’m using it as an avenue to discuss the varying views of the public on the impact of some technologies.

Simply put, the youth is constantly berated for being too involved in Social Media. Critics of Social Media have made claims that these online platforms are ruining our social skills, and cause us to lose touch with real face-to-face interactions. But I disagree wholeheartedly. I believe Social Media offers much more than what the critics see. I admit there is a very different social dynamic between online conversations and texting, than an actual phone call or in-person meet up. But they just require minimal adaptations to each social setting.

Rather, my perception on the benefits of Social Media could not be greater. As a recent college graduate, I have found it hard to keep in touch with some of my greatest friends as our careers have taken us on different paths. As a result, I’ve found that some of the people I care about most are beyond reach of constant face-to-face interaction, and phone calls would take up hours of time that I simply don’t have and I know my friends can’t afford. In fact, two of the people I enjoy talking to most are spread out across different states. One is attending grad school in Washington D.C. while the other is doing the same close to Philadelphia, while commuting from New Jersey. But to be without speaking with them would be unbearable!

Now with Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus’s Video chat, we can watch our favorite TV shows together, and laugh about the latest actors on SVU that we both despise. And it’s almost as if the miles between these long lost friends disappear. And with the amazing advances in mobile technology and the ability to utilize all of my social apps, it’s almost as if my friends are with me wherever I go. And for that reason, it’s no wonder the mobile app market is in such high competition. In the past year alone, mobile app store powerhouses, such as Apple, Android, and Blackberry have grown almost unbelievably by 111%, 544%, and 268% respectively.

This information was provided by an amazing mobile app store infographic done by WebpageFX, a company specializing in internet marketing and SEO packages. Even more so, these app stores are making a killing with reported revenue in 2010 amounted to $5.2 billion. All of which I feel is justified by the fact that more and more individuals are realizing the priceless benefit of staying close with the people they care about.

Steve Jobs & Apple: What Can We Learn About Marketing From His Tenure at the Head of the Biggest Tech Brand in the World

This Guest Post Steve Jobs & Apple: What Can We Learn About Marketing From His Tenure at the Head of the Biggest Tech Brand in the World was submitted by: Justin Shimp. If you would like to Submit a Guest Post please see Submit Guest Post.

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs resigned as CEO recently because of ongoing issues with his health. This has caused mass speculation regarding his resignation and what it means to the high-tech industry as a whole. The incredible products and web solutions innovations that have been produced by Apple during his tenure are breathtaking. Steve Jobs has been at the forefront of it all.

  • The Personal Computer – Jobs is a marketing genius, constantly innovating and creating new markets, along with enormous profits. For example, the iMac is considered by critics to be the gold standard for personal computers. The iMac, in all its versions, has been packed with sheer computing power and security.
  • Reinventing the Telephone – When the iPhone was released in June of 2007, thousands of customers were waiting to get their hands on the device. The phone had a powerful processor and a touch screen user interface that was a radical departure from most anything found on the market at that time. It immediately became the best-selling phone in the world. Developers came in droves to the App Store, building applications for all the loyal consumers. The user experience, coupled with the ease of use, made for a truly revolutionary product.

  • The World of Music in the Palm of Your Hand – Steve Jobs challenged the commonly held notion success depended on creating an open platform for content. The App Store and iTunes were built on a closed platform, and are subject to tight restrictions and regulations. Music companies and artists had attempted to create an online music marketplace that would let customers legally download music. The music companies failed, but Steve Jobs and Apple created iTunes, and it became a resounding success.
  • iPad – There is a long list of Apple products that disrupted and created new industries. The iPad created the tablet industry and is still years ahead of its competitors, who are all desperately trying to catch up. Jobs wasn’t afraid of innovation, and of defying critics. There is an entire industry built around what new products are in the works at Apple. Scarcity has played a big role in the marketing of Apple products. Apple frenzy ensues as soon as a release date for a product is announced, even if it is just a rumor.

Steve Jobs has always kept upcoming product information in complete secrecy. This just creates more interest for the upcoming products. The designs of the products are like nothing else available on the market today. The products have generated rave reviews and genuine customer loyalty. In a world where technology adapts and evolves lightning quick, Jobs, time and time again was in front of it all.
