Email Marketing Enemy: Caught and Killed

Email marketing evolved from direct marketing and has done exceptionally well… but still many companies are not able to capitalize on this marketing strategy (they are losing sales as a result).

Today, with the advent of the internet era the brick and mortar system has been converted to the brick and click system of marketing.

Writing for an online reader has proven to be more difficult than writing for a direct mail client. The reader is more impatient when observing online. There are too many options available to them to consistently read unnecessary information. Therefore, you have less time to capture their interest. Email marketing should be very effective and it can be by including things such as bullets and points instead of long paragraphs.

One of the worst enemies to an overly aggressive email marketer is the use of spam filters. Spam filters have removed unsolicited emails as an option. So the use of opt- in pages have been developed to ensure that no unwanted emails are being forwarded.

Spam always damages the marketer’s image and name of business. So needless to say it is not worth the time building a list that is not opt in or double opt in.

Email marketing is an excellent way to gain returning visitors to your website on a regular basis. If you are viewed as an authority in your niche then you can earn a good living with just your list marketing. Avoid using list-builders & considering your list as a “piggy bank only”.

As with building any list you will always be faced with those who unsubscribe. One of the best ways to overcome this is: by providing consistent value. Providing value means treating your customers as more than just piggy banks. Providing value doesn’t come easy to any marketer. It can only be done by putting your time in & having a true knowledge of whatever niche you happen to be in. Many marketers launch their websites and start creating lists without having any real knowledge of any kind. The end result turns out to be a list that will drop out super fast from not being engaged or learning something from your email.

This is not what you want… obviously and of course the marketer loses trust of his potential customers. So you must remember to never sell your list or send useless information. These days your subscriber is bombarded with so many emails that they do not even care to open them, and the ones who do open them generally unsubscribe to them. This is known as a low open rate.

Moreover, the image of internet marketer has been damaged by the low quality content sent. One of the most effective ways can be using twitter.

Social media has proven to work when trying to build a list. Whether you choose opening a twitter account or facebook. After opening the account you can use it as a professional profile for your niche or business. You can start following the people around the niche. Once you have around 2000 people you are following you must have several hundreds who follow you as well. Using twitter enables you to create split tests for subject lines…which can help you in improving your subject rates. Tweet two or more versions of yours subject lines to split test them. Whichever records the highest clicks on the StatCounter.com tracker is the best subject line and can be used in email marketing.

Using this form of marketing is nice but remember you can lose followers very quickly when tweeting too much! As with your op-tin list (remember to send messages when necessary or when there is something important to say).
