Spam is the word very often heard over our semi-virtual world. Whether you like it or not it is a big “annoying” issue within social media. Spam is an ongoing problem resulting into huge threats via the internet… now spreading itself onto your social media sites. Spam can be easily defined as simply sending or sharing unsolicited information to a group. The word itself always signifies a negative or hazardous stigma. Sometimes, it happens quite unintentionally… for few people–but none the less it is an ongoing issue.
Social media marketing spam CAN be controlled through the following steps:
1. Never send your social network updates without reading each and every one of them properly.
2. Always forward valuable content to your group and followers that is your “own” or someone who is worth mentioning.
3. Keep away from spammers or people who look like spammers & avoid adding them to your group. This is the best way to keep away from spam content successfully.
4. While on your social networks “remember” this is it the hanging grounds for these type of people… just waiting for opportunities to spam. Make sure your doing proper research before adding them to lists or clicking their links.
5. If you’re into a social media marketing campaign, then it is essential to be genuine with good quality content for your group and followers.
6. The attention gained through the spam content is purely temporary and down the line will result into ignorance and blocking from others.
7. Be a social animal at this place rather than being a dangerous animal with spam content.
8. Social media marketing is almost like flyers spreading activity to others that are in the various social networking sites. It is totally up to you to decide whether to accept or decline. You can block and ignore the content that is found to be spam or not interesting.
9. It is true that most of the spam content is always a big eye catcher. Now, it is your responsibility not to get attracted towards such content.
10. Always look for the good people in your group and avoid adding spammers and business marketing people to avoid this spamming act successfully.
The biggest question about the spam is its endurance. It was there since long and still surviving today. It is clearly an indication that spam has been almost a part of social media and marketing from day one. It seems so intertwined in a way hard to separate it. The best way to keep away from it… is always an individual’s responsibility.

Very valuable advice. I noticed recently that I was getting emails as if comments from Facebook, but when opened, it was a spam (marketing piece with a link). But it did not end up in my spam folder. Social media is neutral and it can be used both ways – for bad or good.

When you have multiple social media profiles it can be a hard task just to clean up all the junk requests and spam that comes into those accounts. Your social media marketing manager will do all of this tedious work on your behalf so you can focus your time on selling. The only way to succeed with social marketing is to constantly be creating content that is useful and engaging to your target audience. This also includes doing daily status updates on your various profiles.

When I started to use my FB before, somebody added me as his friend. I don’t really know him, but he looks pretty much decent so I actually accepted his invitation. However, as time passed by, he constantly send invites to my account. At first, I just don’t mind it, but eventually it pissed me off so I ended up deleting him in my list. The lesson my experience is for me not to add anybody in any of my social media accounts. They might end up messing around in my account that would cause irritation on my part.

The most common problem with any marketing campaign is spamming. No matter how much you try, you can not escape from it. If you are an online marketer, directly or indirectly you are indulged in spamming. The best way of reducing spamming is the quality content. Google gives a lot of preference to good content and that is the only way to save yourself from spamming.

Thank you for all your comments! Spam is a real pain in the butt! Unfortunately in this line of business there is really not much we can do to totally free ourselves from it. Just being aware of who your adding to your friends list and watching what email lists your adding yourself to helps a lot. Another tip but not completely spam proof is to look at your pending friends notifications page prior to befriending…if they are spammers their walls usually tell for sure.
Thanks again

Spam has always been a huge nuisance, now that the spammers are getting more clever, it’s just more annoying. It’s easy enough to ignore spammers on sites like Twitter, but they are a huge pain on sites like Facebook where you want to encourage engagement with your followers.

Thank you for sharing this post, the tips are great. I think people should be careful of who they add on Facebook, because there are so many people making fake profiles. Also you need to make sure you are aware of the spammers.
